3 nappy changing tips with Rockabye

Rockabye Early Learning Centre in Highland Park, Auckland is in the top 5% of child care providers in NZ as determined by their  2014 ERO report . Today we're sharing just three of their expert tips for distracting your baby while changing nappies, we count ourselves lucky to have Rockabye as a part of the Educa!

1. Participation

You can try lightly tickling them or blowing on their feet or belly before you begin. This is a fun way to keep their attention and still positively interact with them. Once your baby is a little older, get them involved in the process. Have your little one pull the wet-wipes out of the container or hand you the clean nappy during the change. Giving your child more control will not only build independence, but will improve their patience.

2. Stay calm

Always have a smile on and go completely over the top with the praise. Keep calm and try not to get angry with your baby/toddler if they attempt to wriggle away because that this can just provoke a full-on tantrum. Staying calm and cheerful usually rubs off on and helps convince them to cooperate.

3. Sing a song or rhyme

There’s nothing better than singing some lively songs even one’s that have actions, this is a great way to involve your child.  A few popular ones are Round & Round the Garden, This Little Piggy or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
